📰 CRUISE NEWS — AUGUST 2026

What's coming next, what's changed & what the cruise lines don't want you to miss 👀🚢

As of August 2026, there is a LOT coming: new mega-ships, new ship classes, new destinations, new attractions, and some seriously ambitious plans. The global orderbook is currently around 78 ships and more than 206,000 new berths, with deliveries stretching well into the 2030s. (Cruise Industry News | Cruise News)

Breaking news!

There are…

TOO MANY NEW CRUISE SHIPS. 😂

Seriously.

Every time I think:

‘Right, I've finally got my head around the current fleet…’

Another ship appears.

Another waterpark.

Another rollercoaster.

Another private island.

Another cruise line announces:

We're about to completely change cruising.’

And I'm sitting here thinking…

HOW MANY CRUISE SHIPS DO WE ACTUALLY NEED?! 😂

But here's the thing…

Some of this stuff is genuinely exciting.

Some of it is brilliant.

Some of it is…

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? 🤔

And some announcements sound amazing until you discover what they actually cost..

Your monthly dose of:

🚢 New ships
🆕 New attractions
🌍 New destinations
💷 Price changes
🏝️ Private islands
🍹 New experiences
📱 New technology
⚓ Ship refurbishments
😳 And the occasional:

‘YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.’

📰 1️⃣ THE BIGGEST STORY — CRUISE SHIPS ARE GETTING EVEN BIGGER

“Let's start with the elephant…

ON THE OCEAN. 😂

The cruise industry isn't slowing down when it comes to new ships.

The current global orderbook runs to 78 ships and more than 206,000 berths, with an estimated value around $80 billion in the March 2026 update — and later industry reporting put the orderbook at roughly $90 billion. (Cruise Industry News | Cruise News)

And here's what I find fascinating.

We're not just getting:

‘Another cruise ship.’

We're getting:

FLOATING RESORTS.

Waterparks.

Racetracks.

Slides.

Surf simulators.

Huge entertainment venues.

Multiple pools.

Private suites.

Speciality restaurants.

And enough bars to make you question your liver. 😂🍹

So the question is:

WHERE DOES THIS END?

🚢 2️⃣ ROYAL CARIBBEAN — THE NEW SHIP ARMS RACE

“Royal Caribbean is continuing to go BIG.

Very big.

Their newest Icon-class ship:

Legend of the Seas

has entered service in 2026 and brings the Icon concept into Europe. Royal Caribbean says it will sail from Barcelona and Rome, while its UK programme includes Freedom of the Seas from Southampton in summer 2027. (Royal Caribbean)

And they're nowhere near finished.

Royal Caribbean has plans for seven new ships over six years, including a new Discovery Class. (Royal Caribbean Blog)

And then…

Hero of the Seas.

Yep.

That's another one.

Hero is scheduled to arrive in August 2027 and will sail from Miami on Caribbean itineraries including Perfect Day at CocoCay. (Royal Caribbean)

So if you thought:

‘I've seen the biggest cruise ship.’

Maybe…

YOU HAVEN'T. 😂”

🎢 3️⃣ WHAT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING TO THE SHIPS?

“Here's what I really want to know.

Not:

‘How many tonnes is it?’

I want to know:

WHAT CAN I ACTUALLY DO ON IT?

Because that's where cruising is getting crazy.

We're talking:

🎢 Water attractions

🏎️ Racing experiences

🛝 Giant slides

🏊 Multiple pools

🎭 Huge entertainment

🍽️ More restaurants

🍹 More bars

🎯 Activities everywhere

Take Norwegian Prima.

It's got a:

🏎️ RACE TRACK

🛝 THE DROP

🎯 DROPZONE

And Norwegian Viva has become particularly interesting for people who want activities rather than simply lying around the pool.

And that's something I think Cruise & Confused should keep watching:

**ARE CRUISE LINES BUILDING SHIPS FOR CRUISING…OR SHIPS YOU NEVER NEED TO LEAVE?** 😂”

📰 4️⃣ MSC WORLD ASIA — HERE'S ONE TO WATCH

“Now…

if you're cruising in Europe…

PAY ATTENTION TO THIS ONE.

MSC World Asia is scheduled for December 2026.

It's the third ship in MSC's World Class and is expected to bring the World Class concept into the Mediterranean.

We're talking:

🌊 Huge ship

🏊 Seven pools

💦 13 whirlpools

👨‍👩‍👧 Family areas

⭐ MSC Yacht Club

🍽️ Loads of dining

And MSC is also promoting an attraction called:

The Spiral @ Tree of Life

which is set to be the longest dry slide at sea. (Cruise Critic)

So…

if you thought:

‘I've done a cruise ship slide.’

Apparently…

YOU HAVEN'T DONE THIS ONE YET. 😂”

📰 5️⃣ CARNIVAL IS GOING BIG ON WATER

“And then we've got:

Carnival Festivale.

Expected in 2027.

And this one is going after families in a BIG way.

It is planned to feature Carnival's largest onboard waterpark yet…

plus:

💦 Raft slides

🧗 Ropes course

⛳ Mini-golf

👨‍👩‍👧 Family activities

So the cruise industry seems to have decided:

‘People don't just want to cruise anymore.’

They want:

A HOLIDAY PARK THAT FLOATS. 😂”

📰 6️⃣ NORWEGIAN — MORE OF THE PRIMA PHILOSOPHY

“Now let's talk Norwegian.

Because if you've watched our:

‘Fun Things to Do on Norwegian Viva’

video…

you'll know NCL has gone down a very particular road.

More:

🏎️ Speed

🎯 Activities

🌊 Outdoor space

🎭 Entertainment

🍽️ Food

And there's more coming.

Norwegian Luna has already joined the fleet in 2026, while Norwegian's future orderbook includes further ships, including Norwegian Aura, currently scheduled for 2027.

And Norwegian has plans for a very large future fleet expansion.

So if you like the idea of:

‘I want to be entertained from breakfast until bedtime.’

NCL is definitely one to watch.”

📰 7️⃣ BUT WHAT ABOUT THE OLD SHIPS?

“Here's something I think gets overlooked.

NEW DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN BETTER.

Because cruise lines aren't simply building new ships.

They're also:

REFURBISHING OLD ONES.

And sometimes…

THAT CAN BE THE GOLDEN FIND. 👀

You could potentially get:

🚢 An established ship

✨ Freshly refurbished spaces

🍽️ Updated restaurants

🛏️ Refreshed cabins

🎭 New entertainment

for considerably less than booking the newest ship on the block.

So don't automatically think:

NEWEST = BEST.

Sometimes:

NEWLY REFURBISHED = BARGAIN. 💰”

📰 8️⃣ THE PRIVATE ISLAND WAR 🏝️

“Now…

this is becoming REALLY interesting.

Cruise lines aren't just competing with each other over ships.

They're competing over:

ISLANDS.

Royal Caribbean has:

Perfect Day at CocoCay.

MSC has:

Ocean Cay.

And Norwegian is investing heavily in its private destination strategy.

The idea?

You book a cruise…and the cruise line controls another part of your holiday.

Ship.

Destination.

Restaurants.

Activities.

Excursions.

Beach.

Everything.

And I'm wondering…

ARE PRIVATE ISLANDS BECOMING THE NEXT BATTLEGROUND?

Because once you've been to one…

you start comparing them.

And that's exactly what I think Cruise & Confused should do.

PRIVATE ISLAND SHOWDOWN. 🏝️🥊

CocoCay vs Ocean Cay vs Great Stirrup Cay…

WHO WINS?

📰 9️⃣ THE BIG QUESTION — ARE WE PAYING MORE?

“Now let's talk about the thing everyone actually wants to know.

💷 HOW MUCH IS ALL THIS GOING TO COST US?

Because here's what worries me.

Cruise ships are getting bigger.

More restaurants.

More attractions.

More premium experiences.

More:

‘ADD THIS FOR £X.’

And suddenly your:

£999 cruise

is:

£999 cruise

💷 Drinks

📶 Wi-Fi

🍽️ Specialty dining

🏝️ Excursions

⭐ Premium experiences

💳 Gratuities

And suddenly…

£999 DOES NOT LOOK LIKE £999 ANYMORE. 😂

So this is going to be a major part of our Cruise News coverage.

Not just:

‘Look at this amazing new thing!’

But:

‘WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY COST?’

Because that's the bit I want to know.”

📰 🔟 THE AI & TECHNOLOGY CRUISE

“And here's another area I'm watching.

TECHNOLOGY. 🤖📱

Cruise lines are increasingly using technology for:

📱 Apps

🔑 Digital access

💳 Payments

🗺️ Navigation

📅 Reservations

🤖 AI-powered services

And potentially…

MORE PERSONALISATION.

Imagine your cruise app knowing:

☕ Your favourite coffee

🍽️ Your dining preferences

🎭 Your favourite entertainment

🏊 Your favourite activities

And building your day for you.

Sounds brilliant.

Until your app says:

‘Based on your behaviour, you appear to have consumed 17 cocktails.’

😂😂😂

WE DON'T NEED THAT LEVEL OF PERSONALISATION.

📰 1️⃣1️⃣ THE BIGGER QUESTION — WHAT HAPPENS TO THE SMALL SHIPS?

“Here's something I really want to watch.

As the mega-ships get:

MEGA

what happens to smaller ships?

Because there are people who absolutely LOVE:

🚢 Smaller ships

👥 Fewer passengers

🧘 Quieter atmosphere

⚓ Smaller ports

🍽️ More intimate dining

And then there are people who think:

‘GIVE ME 8,000 PEOPLE AND A WATERPARK.’ 😂

So I don't think one is going to replace the other.

I think we're going to see:

MORE CHOICE.

Mega-resorts.

Premium ships.

Luxury.

Expedition.

Adults-only.

Boutique.

River.

And everything in between.”

📰 1️⃣2️⃣ FOUR SEASONS AT SEA?!

“Now…

this is one that could shake things up.

Luxury hotel brands are increasingly entering the cruise market.

And 2026 is a particularly interesting year, with new luxury and hotel-brand concepts entering the scene. (The Cruise Line)

Which raises a fascinating question:

WOULD YOU PAY HOTEL-STYLE LUXURY PRICES FOR A CRUISE?

Because this is no longer simply:

‘Which cruise line?’

It's becoming:

‘Which hotel brand do I want floating around the world?’

And I think that's going to be HUGE.”

📰 1️⃣3️⃣ THE SUSTAINABILITY STORY 🌱

“Now let's talk about something much more serious.

WHAT ARE CRUISE SHIPS GOING TO LOOK LIKE IN 2030?

The industry is investing heavily in:

🌱 Alternative fuels

⚡ Energy efficiency

♻️ Waste reduction

💧 Water management

🔋 New propulsion technologies

And we're already seeing some very interesting developments.

For example, 2026 is seeing hydrogen technology make its way further into cruise, alongside a wider push toward lower-emission ships. (The Cruise Line)

But here's where Cruise & Confused comes in.

We're not going to simply say:

‘GREEN! AMAZING!’

We're going to ask:

WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY MEAN?

What fuel?

How much?

Where?

What are the real-world benefits?

Because:

MARKETING IS NOT THE SAME AS IMPACT.

And that's something worth watching.”

📰 1️⃣4️⃣ WHAT'S COMING IN 2027?

“Okay…

let's look ahead.

Because 2027 is looking VERY interesting.

Current industry forecasts show around 15 ships scheduled for delivery in 2027, with almost 28,000 new berths. (Cruise Industry News | Cruise News)

And we're expecting new ships from several major brands.

So if you're thinking about booking a:

2027 CRUISE…

you might want to start paying attention now.

Because the question isn't just:

‘Where do I want to go?’

It could soon become:

‘WHICH NEW SHIP DO I WANT TO TRY?’

📰 1️⃣5️⃣ SHOULD YOU WAIT FOR A NEW SHIP?

“And here's a question I'm going to keep asking.

SHOULD YOU BOOK THE NEW SHIP… OR WAIT?

Because being one of the first passengers sounds exciting.

You get:

✨ Brand-new cabin

✨ Brand-new restaurants

✨ Brand-new attractions

✨ Nobody has used the pool before you

😂

But…

there can also be:

TEETHING PROBLEMS.

Things don't always run perfectly on a brand-new ship.

Restaurants may be adjusting.

Technology may have bugs.

Crew are learning the ship.

Some venues may change.

So you have to decide:

EARLY ADOPTER?

or

LET EVERYONE ELSE TEST IT FIRST? 😂”

📰 1️⃣6️⃣ THE CRUISE & CONFUSED ‘SHOULD I BOOK IT?’ TEST

“Whenever we cover a new ship…

I'm going to give you the:

CRUISE & CONFUSED TEST.

🚢 THE SHIP

Is it genuinely different?

🎢 THE ATTRACTIONS

Are they included?

Or are we paying extra?

🍽️ THE FOOD

How much is included?

🛏️ THE CABINS

Are they actually better?

🏝️ THE ITINERARY

Where does it go?

💷 THE PRICE

What does the holiday REALLY cost?

📰 CRUISE NEWS & UPDATES

What's coming next, what's changed & what the cruise lines don't want you to miss 👀🚢

Families?

Couples?

Adults?

Party people?

Luxury travellers?

⭐ AND FINALLY…WOULD I ACTUALLY BOOK IT?

Because:

NEW ≠ AUTOMATICALLY BETTER.

🔮 1️⃣7️⃣ THE CRYSTAL BALL

“Okay…

time to look into the future.

🔮 What do I think we're going to see more of?”

🎢 MORE ONBOARD ATTRACTIONS

“Ships are going to continue trying to outdo each other.

If one ship has a waterslide…

the next one needs:

A WATERPARK.

If one has a racetrack…

the next one needs:

A RACETRACK IN SPACE.

😂”

🏝️ MORE PRIVATE DESTINATIONS

“Cruise lines want to control more of the holiday.

So expect more:

🏝️ Private islands

🌴 Beach clubs

💦 Waterparks

🍹 Private experiences”

🍽️ MORE SPECIALITY DINING

“Cruise lines know people will pay for food experiences.

So expect more:

👨‍🍳 Celebrity chefs

🍣 Premium restaurants

🥩 Steak houses

🍸 Immersive dining”

📱 MORE TECHNOLOGY

“Your phone is becoming your:

🔑 Key

🎟️ Ticket

🍽️ Reservation

💳 Wallet

🗺️ Map

And probably…

YOUR CRUISE BUDDY.

💷 MORE ‘PAY FOR THE EXPERIENCE’

“And here's the one I'm watching closely.

Will the cruise fare increasingly become:

THE STARTING PRICE

rather than the actual holiday price?

That's something we're going to keep investigating.”

🏆 THE CRUISE & CONFUSED GOLDEN FIND

“Okay…

if you've made it this far…

here's my golden find.

And it's not a new ship.

It's not a waterslide.

It's not a private island.

It's this:

DON'T JUST WATCH CRUISE NEWS...USE IT.

New ship announced?

👉 See where it's sailing.

New route announced?

👉 Check prices.

New attraction?

👉 Find out whether it's included.

Refurbishment announced?

👉 Look for sailings afterwards.

New ship launching?

👉 Compare it with the older ship.

New private island?

👉 Check what actually costs extra.

New cruise line?

👉 Ask whether it offers something you can't already get.

Because news is only useful if it helps you make:

A BETTER CRUISE DECISION.

Keep comparing.

And occasionally…

getting completely confused. 😂

This is

🚢❤️And if something ridiculous happens at sea before then…

YOU KNOW I'LL BE ON IT. 😂”

🚢❤️ ”SEE YOU ON BOARD!”
